The combined drug for local use in ophthalmology.
The drug provides a sufficient dose and compatibility of both active components, and also reduces the likelihood of error in the selection of the dose in the case of separate use of the components included in the preparation.
Gentamicin is a water soluble antibiotic of the aminoglycoside group. It has a bactericidal effect against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Gentamicin does not penetrate the intact cornea. Corneal damage and inflammation leads to the penetration of gentamicin through the cornea into the anterior chamber of the eye 15 minutes after instillation of eye drops or laying eye ointment.
Dexamethasone is a synthetic GCS, the anti-inflammatory and antiallergic action of which is 25 times greater than the action of cortisol, which is a natural endogenous GCS. Dexamethasone may penetrate through the cornea with the intact epithelium into the moisture of the anterior chamber of the eye; however, in the case of an inflammatory process or damage to the epithelium, the rate of penetration of dexamethasone through the cornea increases significantly.

Influence on ability to drive motor transport and control mechanisms
Immediately after the use of the drug Dexa-gentamicin, a short-term impairment of visual acuity may occur, leading to a slowdown in psychomotor reactions. Therefore, it is not recommended to use the drug immediately before working with the mechanisms and driving vehicles.
