Clinical Pharmacology

Rehydrating agent. Prevents or reduces dehydration of the body by replacing sodium and potassium salts, restores water-electrolyte balance in diarrhea. Dextrose promotes the absorption of electrolytes, which contributes to the correction of metabolic acidosis.
Pharmacokinetics
The drug is retained in the bloodstream for a short time and very quickly passes into the interstitial sector and into the cells. Already after 1 hour, half of the diluted solution remains in the bloodstream. Very quickly excreted by the kidneys, increasing diuresis. In renal insufficiency, excretion of potassium in the preparation may be slowed down.

Indications

Oral rehydration and dehydration prophylaxis during mild to moderate dehydration due to acute diarrhea in order to compensate for water and electrolyte losses.

Dosage and Administration

For oral use. Before use, the contents of the package are dissolved in 0.5 liters of freshly boiled water at room temperature. The prepared solution should be stored in a cool place in a cold store (at a temperature of +2 - + 8 ° С) and used within 24 hours. No other components can be added to the solution in order not to disturb the effect of the drug.

Before treatment, the patient should be weighed to assess the loss of body weight and the degree of dehydration.

It is recommended to avoid eating foods rich in fats and simple carbohydrates during drug treatment. To prevent dehydration, use of Trihydrosol® should begin as soon as diarrhea begins. Usually the drug should be taken no more than 3-4 days, the treatment stops with the end of diarrhea.

If a patient develops nausea or vomiting, then the solution should preferably be given in a chilled form in small portions.

Rehydration. For rehydration Trihydrosol® take within the first 6 to 10 hours in an amount that is twice the loss of body weight caused by diarrhea. For example, if the weight loss is 400 g, the volume of Trihydrosol solution® makes 800 ml. No other liquids are required during this phase.

Subsequent therapy. If diarrhea continues, it is advisable to administer Trihydrosol after correcting dehydration.® or water for 24 hours as follows:

Body weight (kg) Total amount of fluid required (l)

Trihydrosol®

(ml)

Adverse reactions

The risk of hypernatraemia and hyperhydration in patients with normal renal function is low. With the rapid administration of the drug may cause vomiting.

Contraindications

Unconscious state. Intestinal obstruction. Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, renal dysfunction; diarrhea due to cholera; severe dehydration, hemodynamic shock, severe vomiting.
Carefully
Diabetes.

Drug interactions

Not studied. The solution of the drug has a weak alkaline reaction, so it can affect drugs, the absorption of which depends on the pH of the intestinal contents. Diarrhea itself can alter the absorption of many drugs that are absorbed in the small or large intestine, or drugs that have an enterohepatic recirculation in their metabolism.

Special instructions

Children should use other solutions with a lower concentration of sodium and osmolarity. Severe dehydration (weight loss> 10%, anuria) should be stopped using intravenous rehydration preparations, after which Trihydrosol ® can be used.

The recommended dose of the drug should not be exceeded if the patient’s need for additional electrolyte administration is not confirmed by laboratory tests.

Sugar cannot be added to the solution. Food can be given immediately after rehydration. If you vomit, you should wait 10 minutes after the completion of vomiting and give the solution to drink slowly in small sips.

Patients whose dehydration has developed on the background of renal failure, diabetes mellitus or other chronic diseases, accompanied by impaired acid-base, electrolyte balance or carbohydrate metabolism, require careful monitoring during therapy with Trihydrosol.

The patient should consult a doctor if during the use of the drug Trihydrosol ® he has the following situations:
Appears slow speech, fatigue, drowsiness, stupor;

  • Body temperature rises above 39 ° C;
  • Urine excretion stops;
  • There is liquid bloody stools;
  • Diarrhea lasts more than 2 days;
  • Diarrhea stops suddenly, there is severe pain in the abdomen;
  • If home treatment is unsuccessful or impossible.
Trihydrosol ® does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and the occupation of other potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and psychomotor speed.

Overdosage

With the introduction of a large volume or a highly concentrated solution Trihydrosol ® (in violation of the rules of solution preparation), hypernatremia may occur.
Symptoms of hypernatremia: weakness, neuromuscular excitement, drowsiness, confusion, coma, and sometimes even respiratory arrest. In patients with reduced kidney function, metabolic alkalosis may occur, which may manifest as suppression of pulmonary ventilation, neuromuscular agitation and tetanic convulsions.
If Trihydrosol ® is used in patients with impaired excretion of potassium salts, hyperkalemia may develop (elevated levels of potassium in the blood), which can manifest as impaired sensitivity and paralysis of limbs, skin itching, confusion, low blood pressure, heart attacks and in cardiac arrest, which can come suddenly, in the midst of complete well-being.
In case of overdose symptoms, you should consult a doctor. The correction of water and electrolyte balance should be carried out on the basis of laboratory research data.
