Clinical Pharmacology
Dimexid has a local anesthetic, local anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial (antiseptic) and fibrinolytic action. Quickly and well penetrates biological membranes, incl. through the skin and mucous membranes, increases their permeability to other drugs. Changes the sensitivity of microflora resistant to antibiotics. In most cases, Dimexid is used in combination with other medicinal substances (previously dissolved in it or inflicted on the skin) for better and deeper penetration into tissues (for example, with heparin in the treatment of thrombophlebitis, with glucocorticoids in the treatment of eczema, with antimicrobials for treatment of furunculosis, erysipelas, acne, etc.).
Indications
Diseases of the musculoskeletal system, accompanied by pain and inflammation (rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, deforming osteoarthritis, sciatica, arthropathy, bruises, sprains, traumatic infiltrates, etc.); inflammatory skin diseases (erythema nodosum, systemic scleroderma, furunculosis, erysipelas, acne, etc.); purulent wounds (poorly or not cleaned by conventional methods), burns, trophic ulcers, cellulitis of various localization, thrombophlebitis; in skin plastic surgery - preservation of skin homotransplants; in dentistry, inflammatory diseases of the maxillofacial region, salivary glands, periodontitis, pulpitis, periodontitis, arthritis and arthrosis of the temporomandibular joint.
Composition
1 bottle contains 100 ml of dimethyl sulfoxide in undiluted form
Dimethyl sulfoxide is marketed under different brands and generic names, and comes in different dosage forms:

Dosage and Administration
Skin, in the form of applications and irrigations (washes). In a solution of the required concentration moisten gauze napkins and impose on the affected areas for 20-30 minutes. A plastic film and cotton or linen fabric are applied over the napkin. Duration of applications - 10-15 days.
In the treatment of erysipelas and trophic ulcers - 50-100 ml of 30-50% solution is applied to the affected area 2-3 times a day;for eczema, scleroderma - compresses with 40-50% solution;with pustular skin diseases- 40% solution. For local anesthesia for pain syndromes - compress from 100-150 ml of 25-50% solution 2-3 times a day;in the treatment of deep burns - dressings with 20-30% solution.
For the skin of the face and other highly sensitive areas apply 10-20-30% solutions.
In skin plastic surgery, dressings with a 10–20% solution are used on transplanted skin auto- and homotransplants immediately after operations and on subsequent days of the postoperative period until the graft is sustained. As a preservation medium for the storage of skin homotransplants use 5% solution in Ringer's solution. Less concentrated solutions produce washing of purulent-necrotic and inflammatory foci and cavities.
Adverse reactions
Itchy dermatitis, skin rashes, slight burning, itching, nausea, vomiting (in some patients, due to the smell of the drug); in rare cases - bronchospasm.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, abnormal liver and / or kidney function, myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, marked atherosclerosis, stroke, coma, glaucoma, cataract, pregnancy.
Drug interactions
Increases absorption and enhances the effect of other jointly applied drugs.
Compatible with heparin, antibacterial agents, NSAIDs.
Increases the sensitivity of microorganisms to aminoglycoside and beta-lactam antibiotics; chloramphenicol, rifampicin, griseofulvinu. Sensitizes the body to drugs for general anesthesia.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Contraindicated.
Special instructions
With caution prescribed in combination with other drugs (their toxicity may increase).
If allergic reactions occur, antihistamine drugs should be prescribed.
In order to assess individual tolerance, it is recommended to carry out a drug test, for which a solution of the drug is applied to the skin with a cotton swab. The appearance of a sharp redness and itching indicates increased sensitivity.
