Clinical Pharmacology
Herbal medicine for cough; has expectorant, mucolytic and bronchospasmolytic effects. It reduces the viscosity of sputum and contributes to its discharge.
Pharmacokinetics
The drug is a dry extract of ivy leaves and contains a complex of biologically active substances (triterpene saponins), and therefore conducting pharmacokinetic studies is not possible.
Indications
As an expectorant in the treatment of acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract, accompanied by cough with sputum difficult to separate.

Dosage and Administration
Orally, after eating.
Children from 2 to 5 years: 2.5 ml syrup (1/2 dosing spoon), 2 times a day. Children from 6 to 12 years: 5 ml of syrup (1 dosing spoon), 2 times a day. Adults and adolescents over 12 years old: 5-7.5 ml of syrup (1-1.5 dosing spoons) 2 times a day.
Dosing of the drug is made using a plastic dispensing spoon.
During treatment with the drug Gerbion® ivy syrup, it is recommended to consume a sufficient amount of liquid in the form of heat (water, tea, etc.).
The duration of treatment is 7 days. Repeated course is possible on the recommendation of a doctor.
Adverse reactions
Allergic reactions are possible. Very rarely can a laxative effect be observed, since The product contains sorbitol.
In a comparative study of the efficacy and safety of Gerbion®, ivy syrup (63 patients took Gerbion® ivy syrup) were registered in 1 case: skin rash, pruritus and nausea.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, pregnancy, breastfeeding, sucrase / isomaltase deficiency, fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome, children under 2 years of age.
Drug interactions
There are no reports of drug interactions drug Gerbion® ivy syrup with other drugs. The drug should not be used simultaneously with antitussive drugs that reduce the formation of sputum, because this makes it difficult to discharge liquefied sputum.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Due to the lack of safety data on the use of dry ivy leaf extract in pregnant women and during breastfeeding, therefore,

Gerbion® Ivy Syrup contains ethyl alcohol (0.01 mg / ml) and sorbitol (E420). The maximum single dose (2.5 ml) for children (from 2 to 5 years) contains 0.00025 g of absolute ethyl alcohol; the maximum single dose (5 ml) for children (from 6 to 12 years old) contains 0.0005 g of absolute ethanol; The maximum single dose (from 5 ml to 7.5 ml) for adults and adolescents over 12 years old contains 0.0005 g - 0.00075 g of absolute ethanol. The maximum daily dose: (5 ml) for children (from 2 to 5 years) contains 0.0005 g of absolute ethyl alcohol; (10 ml) for children (from 6 to 12 years old) contains 0,0010 g of absolute ethanol; (from 10 to 15 ml) for adults and adolescents over 12 years old contain from 0.0010 g to 0.0015 g of absolute ethyl alcohol. Patients with diabetes should take into account that 5 ml of syrup contains 2.5 g of sorbitol, which corresponds to 0.21 carbohydrate (bread) units (COT). If there is no effect on the background of drug treatment within 7 days or worsening of the condition, it is necessary to consult a doctor.

There is no data on the effect of Gerbion® Ivy Syrup, on the ability to drive vehicles and work with technical devices requiring increased concentration and psychomotor reactions.
Overdosage
Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea can develop when taking large doses (three times the recommended daily dose).
Treatment: drug withdrawal, symptomatic therapy.
