Clinical Pharmacology

The drug is of plant origin, has expectorant, mucolytic and antispasmodic effect due to the presence of saponins.

Indications

As an expectorant for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract and bronchi, accompanied by cough with sputum difficult to separate.

Composition

100 ml of syrup contain:

Active substance: Ivy leaves extract (2.2–2.9: 1) - 0.8 g;

Excipients: macrogol glyceryl hydroxystearate - 0.5 g; star anise fruit oil - 0,015 g; gietellose - 0.15 g; sorbitol solution 70% (non-crystallizing) - 50 g; propylene glycol - 13.877 g; glycerol - 10 g; purified water - 39.9605 g.

Ivy leaf extract

Dosage and Administration

Orally, after eating.

If the doctor has not prescribed another dosage, Gedelix should be taken:

  • Adults and children over 10 years: 3 times a day - 5 (single dose) - 15 (daily dose).
  • Children 4–10 years old: 4 times a day - 2.5 (single dose) - 10 (daily dose).
  • Children 1–4 years old: 3 times a day - 2.5 (single dose) - 7.5 (daily dose).
  • Children under 1 year: Once a day - 2.5 (single dose) - 2.5 (daily dose).

The package contains a measuring spoon. 1 scoop corresponds to 5 ml.

Adults and teenagers are recommended to take Gedelix undiluted.

It is recommended to give Gedelix to breast and small children diluted in a small amount of water.

The duration of the drug depends on the severity of the disease, but must be at least 7 days. After the disappearance of the symptoms of the disease, it is recommended to continue the drug treatment for 2-3 days.

Adverse reactions

Possible: allergic reactions, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

In rare cases: epigastric pains.

If any of the side effects indicated in the instructions are aggravated or any other side effects that are not indicated in the instructions appear, you must inform the doctor.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the drug.
  • Hereditary intolerance to fructose.
  • Arginine succinate synthetase deficiency.

Drug interactions

The drug should not be used simultaneously with antitussive drugs, because this makes it difficult to discharge liquefied sputum.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Gedelix syrup is not recommended for use during pregnancy and during breastfeeding.

Special instructions

In the absence of a therapeutic effect on the background of taking the drug for 4–5 days or worsening of the patient’s condition (appearance of asthma, purulent sputum, fever), you should immediately consult a doctor.

For diabetics: Since Gedelix does not contain sugar, it can be used by diabetics. 1 scoop (5 ml) contains 1.75 g of sorbitol (corresponding to 0.44 g of fructose), which corresponds to 0.15 XE.

Influence on ability to drive a car or perform work requiring an increased rate of physical and mental reactions

The use of the drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and engage in other potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and psychomotor speed.

Overdosage

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, gastroenteritis are possible.

Treatment: drug withdrawal, symptomatic therapy.
