Clinical Pharmacology

Pimafucin - fungicidal, antifungal.

Pharmacodynamics

Natamycin irreversibly binds to the sterols of the fungal cell membranes, violating the integrity and function, which leads to the death of microorganisms.

Natamycin is sensitive to most pathogenic yeasts, especiallyCandida albicans. Dermatophytes are less sensitive to natamycin. Primary resistance to natamycin is not found in clinical practice.

Pharmacokinetics

Natamycin has only local action, not being absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, through the skin and mucous membranes.

Indications

Vaginitis, vulvitis, vulvovaginitis, caused mainly by fungiCandida.

Composition

1 suppository contains:

Active substance: natamycin100 mg;

Excipients: cetyl alcohol - 690 mg; solid fat - 700 mg; sorbitol - 460 mg; polysorbate 80 - 460 mg; sodium bicarbonate - 69 mg; adipic acid - 64 mg.

Dosage and Administration

When vaginitis, vulvitis, vulvovaginitis- 1 suppository for 3-6 days. The suppository is introduced into the vagina in the "lying" position, as deeply as possible, 1 time per day at night. With persistent vaginitis caused byCandida albicansadditionally prescribed Pimafucin in the form of pills for oral administration (1 tablet 4 times a day for 10–20 days) for the rehabilitation of a nidus of candidal infection in the intestine. For the treatment of candidal affection of the genital organs of the partner, Pimafucin in the form of a cream is used. The duration of treatment is set individually. After the disappearance of the symptoms of the disease, it is recommended to continue treatment for several days.

Adverse reactions

From the digestive tract: In some cases, the use of enteric pills, especially in the first days of treatment, may cause nausea and diarrhea, usually on their own.

Local reactions: perhaps slight irritation, burning sensation (when applying a cream, vaginal suppositories).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Perhaps the use of Pimafucin during pregnancy and lactation according to indications.

Special instructions

Vaginal suppositories under the action of body temperature quickly dissolve, forming a foamy mass, which contributes to the uniform distribution of the active substance.

Overdosage

To date, no cases of overdose of the drug Pimafucin have been reported. Prolonged use of Pimafucin does not adversely affect the skin or mucous membranes and the systemic effect is practically excluded. Accidental ingestion of a large amount of the drug should not cause any toxic effect, since absorption from the intestine is absent.
