Clinical Pharmacology

Piroxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and antirheumatic agent. It has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects. It is used for rheumatic diseases, pain syndrome and articular syndrome.

Indications

Inflammatory and degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system: rheumatoid and gouty arthritis, rheumatism, ankylosing spondylitis (Bechterew's disease), osteoarthritis. Pain syndrome: sciatica, tendovaginitis, bursitis, arthralgia, neuralgia, myalgia, sciatica, post-traumatic and postoperative pain syndrome, accompanied by inflammation, algomenorrhea. Feverish syndrome with colds and infectious diseases.

Composition

1 capsule contains: piroxicam 20 mg.
Excipients: powdered cellulose, sodium carboxymethyl starch (sodium starch glycolate), potato starch, sodium lauryl sulfate, magnesium stearate, gelatin, titanium dioxide or gelatin, titanium dioxide, blue patented dye.

Piroxicam

Dosage and Administration

Adults and children over 14 years old apply the gel to the skin over the affected area at a dose of 1 g (approximately the size of a hazelnut) 3-4 times / day.

The duration of treatment depends on the severity of symptoms and averages 2-3 weeks for tendinitis, tendovaginitis, and hip and shoulder syndrome, and 1-2 weeks for sports injuries.

Adverse reactions

Local reactions: irritation of the skin at the site of application of the drug (inflammation, redness, peeling).

Allergic reactions: urticaria, pruritus.

Contraindications

- renal failure;

- children's age up to 14 years;

- III trimester of pregnancy;

- hypersensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs;

- Hypersensitivity to piroxicam or other components of the drug.

Precautions should be prescribed to patients with asthma, allergic rhinitis, recurrent nasal polyposis and paranasal sinuses, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases or chronic respiratory infections.

Pregnancy and Lactation

The drug is contraindicated for use in the third trimester of pregnancy. In the first and second trimesters, the drug should be used with caution.

Piroxicam in small quantities into breast milk. Therefore, it is not recommended to use Finalgel during breastfeeding.

Special instructions

Avoid getting the drug on damaged skin and eyes.
