Clinical Pharmacology

Rutacid has an antacid effect.

Pharmacodynamics

Hydrotalcite has a layered-mesh structure with a low content of aluminum and magnesium. The release of aluminum ions and magnesium occurs gradually, depending on the pH of the gastric juice. The drug provides a quick and long-lasting neutralization of hydrochloric acid with maintaining the pH close to normal levels. It has a protective effect on the gastric mucosa. Reduces the proteolytic activity of pepsin, binds bile acids.

Pharmacokinetics

The release of magnesium and aluminum ions occurs gradually in the stomach, depending on the pH value. The absorption of the drug occurs in the small intestine. After ingestion, the content of magnesium and aluminum ions in the blood plasma temporarily increases, but penetration into the nervous and bone tissues does not occur (with normal kidney function). The absorbed part is excreted by the kidneys.

Indications

  • acute gastritis, chronic gastritis with increased secretory function in the acute phase;
  • acute and chronic duodenitis;
  • stomach ulcer and duodenal ulcer;
  • reflux esophagitis;
  • discomfort and epigastric pain, heartburn, sour belching after errors in the diet, excessive alcohol consumption, medication.

Composition

1 tablet contains:

Active substance: hydrotalcite 500 mg;

Excipients: mannitol - 836 mg; sodium saccharin - 0.6 mg; sodium carboxymethyl starch - 12 mg; talc - 35 mg; magnesium stearate - 14 mg; Mint flavor - 2.4 mg.

Rutacid® [Hydrotalcite]

Dosage and Administration

For oral use chewing carefully.

Adults and children over 12 years old: 1-2 pills 1 hour after meals 3-4 times a day and before bedtime.

Children from 6 to 12 years: 1 tablet 2 times a day.

Treatment should be continued for 4 weeks.

Adverse reactions

When taking the drug side effects are rare. Allergic reactions, diarrhea, belching.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to hydrotalcite; children's age (up to 6 years).

Carefully: chronic renal failure, hypophosphatemia.

Drug interactions

Rutacid® reduces the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin), coumarins, iron preparations.

Pregnancy and Lactation

There is no evidence of undesirable effects of hydrotalcite during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The use of the drug during pregnancy is possible if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus. The drug does not penetrate into breast milk, so breastfeeding women can take the drug.

Special instructions

The interval between the use of the drug and other medicines should be at least 1-2 hours.

Use of the drug Rutacid is not recommended.® simultaneously with acidic beverages (juices, wine).

Drug Rutacid® does not contain sucrose, so it can be used by patients with diabetes.

Polyols (mannitol) can cause diarrhea.
