Clinical Pharmacology

Septoletes are a combination of antiseptic agents from the group of quaternary ammonium compounds (benzalkonium chloride) and active natural substances (menthol, peppermint essential oil, eucalyptus essential oil, thymol), which increase the activity of the antiseptic and improve its taste.

Benzalkonium chloride has a bactericidal effect on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as a fungicidal effect against Candida albicans and some lipophilic viruses.

Menthol and peppermint essential oil have a moderate analgesic and deodorizing effect. Lozenges relieve pain when swallowing and subjective discomfort, such as tickling. Thymol has an antiseptic effect that enhances the effectiveness of the drug. Eucalyptus essential oil reduces the secretion of mucus in the upper respiratory tract and facilitates breathing.

The drug Septolete® plus contains polyols (maltitol and mannitol), does not contain sugar, which allows you to take the drug to diabetics. Sugar free medium increases the activity of antiseptic. Maltitol and mannitol are metabolized by bacteria of the oral cavity very slowly and to a small extent, therefore, they do not have a damaging effect on the tooth enamel.
