Clinical Pharmacology

Okomistin - antiseptic drug for local use in ophthalmology.

It has a pronounced antimicrobial effect against gram-positive and gram-negative, aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in the form of monocultures and microbial associations, including hospital strains with multi-resistance to antibiotics.

Active against chlamydia, pathogenic fungi, as well as against herpes viruses, adenoviruses.

The drug is more effective against gram-positive bacteria, incl. staphylococci, streptococci.

Under the action of the drug decreases the resistance of bacteria and fungi to antibiotics.

Indications

  • acute and chronic conjunctivitis;
  • blepharoconjunctivitis;
  • keratitis;
  • keratouveuitis;
  • prevention of purulent-inflammatory complications in the pre- and postoperative periods, as well as in the treatment of eye injuries.

Composition

1 ml contain:

Active substance: benzyldimethyl [3- (myristoylamino) propyl] ammonium chloride monohydrate (in terms of anhydrous substance) 0.01 g

Excipients: sodium chloride, purified water

Okomistin

Dosage and Administration

Okomistin used topically (in the conjunctival sac).
For therapeutic purposes, the drug Okomistin (eye drops) is instilled 1–2 drops 4–6 times a day until clinical recovery.
With the preventive purpose, the drug is instilled 1–2 drops 3 times a day for 2-3 days before the operation, as well as for 10–15 days after the operation.

Adverse reactions

Allergic reactions are possible. In some cases, you may experience a feeling of light burning, discomfort, which passes on its own after 15–20 s and does not require discontinuation of the drug.

Contraindications

  • hypersensitivity to the drug;
  • pregnancy;
  • breastfeeding period;
  • children's age up to 18 years.

Drug interactions

Studies of the interaction of the drug with other drugs were not conducted.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.

Special instructions

Contact lenses should be removed immediately before instillation of the drug Okomistin, eye drops and wear no earlier than 15 minutes after instillation.

Influence on the ability to drive a car or perform work that requires increased speed of physical and mental reactions. 

During the period of treatment, it is necessary to refrain from driving vehicles and from engaging in other potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration, psychomotor speed and good vision for 30 minutes after instillation into the eye.
