Clinical Pharmacology

Ferretab comp. - A means for the treatment and prevention of iron deficiency.

Action is determined by the properties of its active ingredients.

Iron fumarate - salt of iron, a trace element necessary for the synthesis of hemoglobin. When using iron in the form of salts, there is a rapid replenishment of its deficiency in the body, which leads to a gradual regression of clinical (weakness, fatigue, dizziness, tachycardia, pain and dry skin) and laboratory symptoms of anemia.

Folic acid necessary for the normal maturation of megaloblasts and the formation of normoblasts. It stimulates erythropoiesis, participates in the synthesis of amino acids, nucleic acids, purines and pyrimidines, in choline metabolism. During pregnancy protects the body from the action of teratogenic factors.

The drug helps to maintain and restore normal levels of iron in the blood, and also prevents such complications as anemia, miscarriage, early childbirth and impaired mental development of the child, which can be observed with a lack of iron and folic acid in the body. The amount of iron absorbed varies between 5 and 35%.

In serum, iron binds to transferrin, is involved in the formation of hemoglobin, myoglobin, cytochrome oxidase, catalase and peroxidase, or is stored in the body's tissues in the form of ferritin.

Indications

Treatment and prevention of iron deficiency states (pregnancy, impaired iron absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, prolonged bleeding, unbalanced and inadequate nutrition).

Composition

1 capsule contains:
active substance: (1 capsule contains 3 mini-pills of iron fumarate and 1 mini-tablet of folic acid), iron fumarate 163.56 mg, folic acid 0.54 mg,
Excipients: lactose monohydrate - 34.47 mg; colloidal silicon dioxide - 2.3 mg; magnesium stearate - 2.3 mg; polyacrylate (30% dispersion) - 13.98 mg; MCC - 24.25 mg.

Dosage and Administration

Ferretab comp. take orally, on an empty stomach, drinking plenty of liquids, 1 capsule per day. With a marked lack of iron or folic acid, you need to increase the dose to 2-3 capsules per day. Maintenance treatment should continue for at least 4 weeks after reaching normal hemoglobin levels to normalize serum ferritin, reflecting iron stores in the body.

Adverse reactions

Usually well tolerated. In some cases, a temporary adverse effect on the digestive tract is possible - a feeling of filling and unpleasant sensations in the stomach, nausea, vomiting, allergic reactions, constipation.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components Ferretab comp .;
diseases associated with the accumulation of iron in the body (aplastic and hemolytic anemia, thalassemia, hemosiderosis, hemochromatosis);
violation of iron absorption (sideroachrestic anemia, lead anemia, pernicious anemia (vitamin B12 deficiency);
anemia not caused by lack of iron or folic acid.

Drug interactions

When taken simultaneously with antacids, iron absorption deteriorates.

Joint use with antibiotics of the tetracycline group should be avoided in connection with the violation of iron absorption.

Cholestyramine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine, Sulfasalazinee, hormonal contraceptives, folic acid antagonists, trimethoprim, triamteren, solid food, bread, raw cereals, dairy products, eggs, tea - reduce iron absorption.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Application is possible if there is evidence.

Special instructions

Before starting treatment with iron supplementation, it is necessary to conduct a study of serum iron, serum ferritin (ie, to document iron deficiency).

When taking the drug may be dark staining of stool, benzidine sample - false positive.

Overdosage

Symptoms: increased manifestations of side effects.

Treatment: conducting a study of serum iron and serum ferritin levels. In the case of a significant excess of normal serum ferritin levels, an iron chelator (desferal) should be prescribed in accordance with the dose recommended by the manufacturer.
