Dosage and Administration

Sulgin adminstered orally. For acute intestinal infections, a single dose for adults is 1-2 g; frequency of use: 1st day - 6 times, 2-3rd day - 5 times, 4th day - 4 times, 5th day - 3 times / day.

The course of treatment is 5-7 days. Children under 3 years old - 200 mg / kg / day. in 3 doses for 7 days; children older than 3 years - 400-750 mg (depending on age) 4 times / day.

For the prevention of postoperative complications: 50 mg / kg every 8 hours for 5 preoperative days and at the same dose for 7 days after surgery.

Adverse reactions

Possible: crystalluria, development of vitamin B deficiency.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides.

Drug interactions

Reduces the effectiveness of oral contraceptives. Benzocaine, procaine, anesthesin, novocaine reduce the antimicrobial activity of sulgin (hydrolysis releases PABA).

Antidiabetic drugs (sulfonylurea derivatives), difenin, coumarin anticoagulants increase the side effects of sulgin.

The combined use of sulgin with hexamethylenetetramine and ascorbic acid increases the likelihood of crystalluria (increase the acidity of urine).

Pregnancy and Lactation

Sulgin contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.

Special instructions

In order to prevent crystalluria during the treatment period, patients should receive abundant drinking (2-3 l / day).

Early cessation of treatment or insufficient doses can lead to the emergence of resistant strains of pathogens. During treatment, it is recommended to take vitamins of group B.
