Clinical Pharmacology
Lavacol has a laxative effect.
Pharmacodynamics
The action of the drug is based on the combination of a high molecular weight polymer with an isotonic electrolyte solution. Polyethylene glycol MM 4000 prevents the absorption of water from the stomach and intestines and contributes to the accelerated evacuation of intestinal contents by frequent bowel movements. The electrolytes contained in the preparation, prevent disruption of the water and electrolyte balance of the body.
Indications
Preparing for endoscopic or radiological examination of the colon, as well as for surgical interventions that require the absence of contents in the intestine (surgical operations in gastroenterology, proctology, gynecology, etc.
Composition
1 sachet contains:
Active substances: macrogol 4000 (PEG) 12 g, potassium chloride 200 mg, sodium bicarbonate 600 mg, sodium sulfate 1 g, sodium chloride 200 mg.

Dosage and Administration
For oral use on an empty stomach The contents of the package (14 g) are dissolved in 200 ml of water. Take for 18-20 hours before the study or surgery, 3 liters of solution (approximately 200 ml with an interval of 20 min).
In the process of receiving and after it is consumed only liquid food. The recommended hours for taking the drug are 14–19 h.
After 22 hours, food intake is not shown.
Adverse reactions
In rare cases, nausea and vomiting, a feeling of heaviness and discomfort when taking the first dose of the drug.
Contraindications
- severe violations of the patient’s general condition (including dehydration, heart failure);
- intestinal obstruction;
- toxic expansion of the colon;
- gastric stenosis;
- perforation of the stomach or intestines;
- erosive and ulcerative lesions of the digestive tract;
- renal dysfunction.
