Clinical Pharmacology

Antimicrobial bacteriostatic agent, sulfanilamide. The mechanism of action of Streptocide is due to competitive antagonism with PABA, inhibition of dihydropteroate synthetase, impaired synthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid, necessary for the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines. It is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative cocci, Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Vibrio cholerae, Clostridium perfringens, Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Yersinia pestis, Chlamydia spp., Actinomyces isis, I, I, Iersinia pestis, Idinthis isthis, Istinicis, Israel, etc., Actinomy isis, I, I, Iersinia pestis; When applied to the skin, it promotes rapid healing of wounds and epithelization of erosion.

Indications

Local treatment: tonsillitis, infected wounds of various etiologies, burns (I-II cent.), Folliculitis, furuncle, carbuncle, acne vulgaris, impetigo, other inflammatory processes of the skin, erysipelas.

Composition

1 g contains sulfanilamide: para-aminobenzenesulfamide 10 mg.

Sulfanilamide

Dosage and Administration

For oral use. Adults on the first day of treatment prescribed in a dose of 500 mg 4 times / day.; on the 2nd day - 1 g 4 times / day; in the 3rd and following days - 1.5-2 g 4 times / day. After subsiding of the acute clinical symptoms of ulcerative colitis, Sulfasalazine-EN is prescribed in a maintenance dose of 500 mg 3-4 times / day. for several months.

Children aged 5-7 years should be prescribed 250-500 mg 3-6 times / day, children over 7 years old - 500 mg 3-6 times / day. Sulfasalazine-EH should be taken after meals.

Adverse reactions

On the part of the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system: headache, dizziness, tinnitus, ataxia, convulsions, sleep disorders, hallucinations, peripheral neuropathy.

On the part of the urinary system: renal dysfunction, interstitial nephritis.

On the part of the digestive system: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, anorexia, hepatitis, pancreatitis.

On the part of the respiratory system: interstitial pneumonitis and other lesions of the lung tissue.

From the hemopoietic system: anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis.

Reproductive system: transient oligospermia, infertility.

Allergic reactions: skin rash, fever, anaphylactic shock.

Other: possible staining in yellow skin, urine, soft contact lenses.

Contraindications

  • blood disorders;
  • porphyria;
  • severe liver dysfunction;
  • severe renal impairment;
  • deficiency of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;
  • children up to 5 years;
  • hypersensitivity to sulfanilamides and salicylic acid derivatives.

Pregnancy and Lactation

The use of Sulfasalazinee-EN in pregnancy is possible only under strict indications in the minimum effective dose. If the course of the disease allows, it is recommended to cancel the drug in the third trimester of pregnancy.

If necessary, the use of the drug during lactation should decide on the termination of breastfeeding.
